Background:
TicTac Watch has been a watch retailer in Vietnam since 1978. The company is Vietnam’s authorized official distributor of many well-known watch brands. I was given a small assignment to design a poster for Father’s Day.
Ideation:
TicTac did not have its own brand visual identity back then, therefore I had the flexibility to use a photo or an illustration as the main imagery for the poster. Ideally, I wanted to create a simple illustration that related to “mechanical movements”, “time/date”, and “Father’s Day common symbols”, because the minimal poster was easy to notice from many luxury watch posters in TicTac’s showroom.
Design:
I came up with 2 design options – “bicycle” and “mustache” as the main imagery for the Father’s Day poster. The “bicycle” symbolizes the moving circle of life. It’s like a journey of growing from a son, a dad, and a grandad in life. The “mustache” was a very popular symbol of Father’s Day back then, I designed this option like a mechanical man with a mustache.
We then went for the “mustache” option because it’s close to the image of fathers. The bicycle was quite abstract, it’s more to the broadened meaning of life.
